More than ever, the present pandemic has made clear the need for clinical chaplains.
We are often asked whether our Kaiser Permanente – CPSP Clinical Pastoral Training program is on hold because of Covid-19. The answer is “quite the contrary.” We have, however, made adjustments to how we see train and how we see patients. Just as with other clinicians, masking, gowning, gloving, social distancing, and hand washing (more than ever!) are a part of life for us in the hospital. Instead of crowding into a room with other chaplain interns and residents for our cohort group sessions, we meet on Zoom. And surprisingly, the learning seems to be accelerated rather than impeded.
